From the East - March 2011

My Brothers,

As we all here in Connecticut are almost dug out of the mounds of snow and the weather has given us some warm days it almost seems like spring in near. Because of the snow, we did lose one of our two meetings in February. Let us hope Mother Nature starts to be kinder to us.

Beginning with the second meeting in March, the Community Service Committee is starting an ongoing food drive to benefit the hungry in New Haven. Each Brother’s admission to our Lodge meetings will be the donation of a non-perishable food item to our drive. If you forget to bring the food item, the Committee will accept a small cash donation (one to two dollars) for the drive. My brothers, let us make a name for Masonry and our Lodge and collect as much food for New Haven as we can.

The Lodge Advisory Committee met with representatives of the Connecticut Yankee Council, BSA and the Council’s Lighthouse District to discuss the Lodge becoming a Charter Organization for a Cub Pack. A Cub Pack serves boys ages 7 to 10 years old. The Committee voted unanimously to proceed with the Lodge becoming a Charter Organization for a BSA Cub Pack. The Principal of the Hooker Elementary School has agreed to allow the Connecticut Yankee Council to recruit boys from that school for the program. Hopefully, in a short time we will be ready to become a Charter Organization for a BSA Cub Pack.

Our March 2nd meeting will be a short one and then we will adjourn to a presentation by Bro. Carl Ek on Colonial Masonry. So come on down. This presentation should be very informative and enjoyable.

March 16th, we will be celebrating Saint Patrick’s Day. Again a short business meeting and then adjourn to the Bowels of the institution for what will be a most enjoyable program by the Junior Warden. He is planning an Irish whiskey sampling and light supper / dinner. See the JW article for more information.

On March 19th the Community Service Committee is asking for brothers to volunteer to assist in the Beach Clean Up Day at Fort Nathan Hale Park Beach. Please contact Brother Jonathan Glassman to sign up.

We have two CTCHIP events scheduled: One on April 30th and the second on May 21st. The CTCHIP equipment is brand new. Therefore we need training to use the equipment. WB David Stern has scheduled a CTCHIP equipment training session on April 7th at 7:30 PM at the Lodge. Please contact WB Stern to sign up for this training session.

Additionally, get ready for our 1st Annual Combined Passover / Easter Ladies at Table scheduled for April 30th. We have invited several other lodges to join us. This will be an event to remember so put it on your calendar.

Last but not least, I want to announce to the Craft the 2011 dress code for the Lodge. The Dress Code for 2011 is:

·         Regular Business Meeting: Business Casual for all brothers. Business Casual is defined as slacks and a dress shirt or a Lodge blue dress shirt unless a brother comes to Lodge straight from work. No shorts or denim (jeans) will be allowed.

·         Degrees: Tuxedos for Officers and a suit and tie or sport coat, slacks and a tie for brothers.

·         Special Events at a Business Meeting: The Dress Code for Business Meetings with a Special Event, such as a Cookout / Grill out, will be posted in the Trestle Board before the event.

Please come to Lodge and help your officers make this year a good year for Masonry and our Lodge. I hope the spirit and enthusiasm of the 2011 Officers and Committee Chairmen light up the excitement of the Craft to join us at Lodge and at special events.

As always, as an Eagle Scout, I Promise to do my best, as your 2011 Master!

Fraternally,

Steven J. Elzholz
